I like a haunted house to have lights that make it spookier! I'm sort of a fraidy cat so don't go much but when I did I liked that!
ReplyDeleteshannonjean14(at)gmail(dot)com
The best haunted house attraction is the one that (nearly) scares the wee wee out of you, makes you scream until you're hoarse, causes you to jump into the arms of your mate for comfort, and then once you escape with your life--makes you laugh (either from relief or madness) until your side aches. :)
ReplyDeletenicnac63 (at) gmail (dot) com
I love a haunted house that has blood.....a lot of it with creepy, eerie music and flashy lights with loads of creatures jumping at you from all directions. BWAHAHAHA!!!
ReplyDeleteclaroxide@yahoo.co.in
The best haunted house is a real one, not one of those major attractions that get set up in every abandoned building and empty lot in late September. It is also not one of the top tourist destinations, either – if I am in a haunted house, I want to experience it, not be led on a guided tour. The best haunted house is one that you do not even know is haunted until you are hanging out and weird things start to happen: objects go missing, things move on their own, and you hear your name called softly…
ReplyDeleterickimc[at]aol[dot]com
When I think of Haunted House rides I like to think of the somewhat cheesy ones! Those are traditional and just plain fun! It's funner to laugh than to be actually terrified. In my opinion at least! Reading too much has given me an overactive imagination, so I do tend to get freaked out in the "scarier" houses!
ReplyDeletejessbess2505[at]yahoo[dot]com
Those books look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI will never forget the Haunted House that scared the pants off me. There was a "dead body" lying on a slab, and when I walked into the room he got up and started walking toward me. I was so scared I tried to turn around and run out, and wound up smacking my knee and cutting it wide open. But I was only 11 or 12 so try not to make too much fun of me :)
Woot! I'm a huge fan of haunted houses and all things spooky. I went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios many years ago, and one of their rooms was the BETS! The walls were painted black with large white dots all over. They had the black lights and strobe lights going, and you became very disoriented trying to find your way around the room. THEN, people jumped out from the wall! They were dressed head to toe in black with large white dots to match the wall. It was brilliant and scared the crap outta me! I loved it. :)
ReplyDeleteGREAT prizes!! Thank you.
@SmashAttackAsh
I think it's the scariest when the people in it are actually interacting. Like if a bloody hand grabs your hair and a guy chases you out with a chainsaw. It really scares the crap out of me. Also, if turn off all the lights and they force you to go through with only a flashlight. Ah, that's spooky.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! :)

I'm a real wuss, so the lights off are reason to panic for me. But the real horror for me is the Haunted House, with no lights, with scary music, liters of movie blood and creepy monsters, haunting and touching me. Perhaps I freaked out with fear, if I went upstairs and somebody suddenly grabbed my leg with arm spattered with blood and without one finger. My true nightmare. Did I said, that I'm Wuss?
ReplyDeletemisadevilgirl @ seznam.cz
I absolutely love mazes. You think that your main goal is just to find the exit but somewhere along the way people start to grab your legs or jump out at you. So scary! Especially ones in corn mazes or if there's a sign saying it's haunted. Definitely adds to the creep factor.

Hm. I love that haunted houses can be for all ages - making out for the parents, scaring each other for the siblings and other kids, and pontificating on how passe it is to even go into a haunted house by teenagers. :3
ReplyDeleteOh, and don't forget the high-octane nightmare fodder - clowns. Those will scare anyone, present company included. D:

The best haunting house (or a dark cellar, or in my case, a dry well) is when it's a real one, abandoned and decayed, and visited on a dare after your friend tells you a story she swears is real, that there's something evil living down there, and that children who go in have never returned. I didn't dare to go down there:)
ReplyDeletespamscape [at] gmail [dot] com
First off, I hate haunted houses! I scare with pretty much anything! The best in my opinion that scare me is the simplest things. Near or total darkness with stange sounds all around. They play with your imaganation and make you think all sorts. A few people make up scary make it even worse. But my worse fear is creepy clowns so if I saw one in a creepy haunted house I would properly faint!
ReplyDeletemeganmcdade2008@yahoo.co.uk
I have to share an experience. We went to Eurodisney in Paris years ago and in it, there is a mirror and when you look in it it looks like there are monsters all over you. that has to be the most terrifying, scary, naightmare-inducing experience of my life.
ReplyDeleteJade-walker@hotmail.co.uk
What makes the BEST Haunted House Attraction? This would be a when a clown starts running after you with a chainsaw in his hands the moment you entered it, plus with the lights turning on and off and you don’t know where to go. Along with it you’ll get to hear screaming voices of girls being murdered shouting for help and then you get lost in a maze full of mirrors then suddenly a zombie starts strangling you with its gruesome face and stinking smell. You get out gasping for fair but then the clown pulled you back in the house.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
fallendream03(at)gmail(d0t)com
The best haunted house is dark, creepy, and suspenseful. You should be afraid of every corner you turn. The best attraction would be zombies chasing after you with their slimy hand, people with chainsaws popping up, ventriloquist dolls everywhere (i think they are SUPER creepy) and having tubs filled with blood and around the tubs possibly slaughtered mannequins...yeah, i have a sick mind :P. Around every corner there should be an element of suprise and something you don't expect. This, to me, makes a perfect haunted house.

I think an added element to a haunted house is that it needs to be chilly...not freezing but you need to wrap your arms around yourself ...I think it makes you start to be more aware about what's around you and sets you up to be paranoid, plus smoke so you can't see what is lurking around.
ReplyDeleteSide note: one time I got chased by a guy with a chainsaw out of a haunted house.... SCARY!

I think any Haunted house that has a guy chasing you with a chain saw is pretty gosh darn scarey. I had that experience as a teenager and tripped and fell...not only scarey, but embarrassing!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!!
jmluker(at)winco(dot)net
THere has to be eerie sounds or music that already sets you on edge. Then, you have to find yourself weaving around corners so you never know what's around the next bend. THis suspense is what makes it so scary... the anticiaption!
ReplyDeletepakazo77@gmail.com
The best Haunted House, well first off the more realistic the better. Sound effects are good and all but having the slightest smell of smoke or really anything to do with the theme helps. I love the Haunted Houses that take a person from their group and hides them in another part of the house or in my case put them in a coffin for about 15 min (Seriously, it was wired for sound with zombies coming out and the coffin was banged on). And it definitely has to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up!

ReplyDeleteThe ones where you can walk (not ride) through - everything is creaking and moaning and it's really rather a kiddy attraction, but when you've almost made it to the exit something scary happens and makes you scream!
ReplyDeletedanaan at gmx dot at
The best haunted house would be one that causes you to want to keep going to see what's coming for you next, but makes you terrified to do so.
ReplyDeleteIt would have dark lighting so that you have trouble seeing what you're getting yourself into, sudden loud sounds, and eerie music playing in the background. And it has to be one that is interactive, where people reach out and touch you from behind and you turn around and no one's there and then you turn back around and someone jumps out in front of you unexpectedly...AHHHH! :)
I love the haunted houses where I know something is coming for me... but when??? The best haunted house is the one that keeps you guessing and in suspense all the way to the end when you finally get out and run right back to the entrance to go through it again!

ReplyDeleteHalloween is my FAVORITE time of year. I love the ghost stories, the weather, the colors, the pumpkins, the CANDY, everything!
ReplyDeleteThe best haunted attraction is the kind that makes you forget where you are. It all seems so real, that you forget you're with your friends, or on a farm, or part of reality at all! It kicks in the survival instinct, and next thing you know you're running for your life! (You don't have to outrun your pursuer, just as long as you can outrun your slowest mate!)

I like haunted houses with mazes, you have to find your way out and every twist and turn could mean running into your worst nightmare. I also like being locked in a prison cell with Jason (Friday the 13th), yeah he was pretty nice until he started chasing people and breaking the walls with his machette. Then a girl comes out of a bathtub dripping with fake blood. I like noises, moaning and suspense and darkness and the longer, the better.

The best haunted houses are the ones with scary characters jumping out from all areas, chasing you down the twists and turns, with freaky weapons--such as chainsaws. There needs to be screaming and scary music... and lots of blood for the faint of heart.

Curtains fluttering in the wind tickling your skin as you walk into rooms with blood running down the walls. Decorations so real you wonder if they robbed bodies at the morgue for parts. Glass jars of eyeballs, teeth and other bloody pieces line cobweb covered shelves. Floorboards creak with every step and moans sift from rooms you have yet to enter. Your body is tense with morbid curiosity as to what is in the next in the next dark corner. Creepy crawlies run across your feet. You take slow steps trying to absorb every detail but your mind screams, “Run!”
ReplyDeletemlljenkins(AT)live(DOT)com
The best haunted houses are the ones that build the suspense, they don’t have to be especially gory or horror feeling. It’s the anticipation that’s scary, so the lighting and the small creepy noises in the shadows, that builds the anticipation. Then, BAM surprise horror! That’s my kinda haunted house, the suspenseful ones, the triller kinda haunted houses….
ReplyDeletebooksavvybabe AT gmail DOT com
So my haunted house will be in an old, decrepit mansion. The only time you can go see it will be at midnight. There will be no lights on except for the flashlights everyone will have. Cobwebs will cover every part of the house and there will be spiders crawling all over them. Skeletons will be in various places that would shock you. People will randomly appear with doll heads for hands and will be moaning. You will hear the sound of roaring chainsaws and guns. Blood would be splattered all over the place. You will hear evil laughter from the ghosts that will appear from projectors. Black cats would slither around your legs but you would have no idea what they are. And at the very end a sparkling vampire will whisper in your ear "Boo".
ReplyDeletePokadots1121@yahoo.com
WHat makes a haunted house...
ReplyDeleteTHE LIGHTS, the light have to be just right... The blood. Lots and lots of blood. body parts. the undead have to be undead looking. When I go to a haunted house I want to be terrified. My knees need to shake. My throat should hurt from the screaming. A haunted house should be just that..... HAUNTED!

ReplyDeleteHaunted houses are best when they're haunted TRAILS or forests or cornfields. There's something about being outside in the pitch dark beneath the scarce light of the moon and not knowing what's behind that tree or what that sound splitting the night air up ahead of you is that no 'indoors' haunted attraction can pull off.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!

My best haunted house experience was when my best friend was in on it. He knew exactly what would scare the &%$# out of me. I had nightmares for days, that's how good and creepy it was!
ReplyDeletekr_moreau at doglover dot com
I think strobe lights with billowing streamers and flashing lights make a good environment for a haunted house. There should also be a scene much like the grudge, with a girl slipping out of something, say a T.V., to grab an unfortunate guest. A few fake cannibals, scary clowns (think Steven King), dark colored walls, mirrors that distort the guest or give the guest a ghost caricature...maybe even 3D glasses to really liven up the experience! The 3D could make the guests feel as if ghosts were truly flying at them or heads were thrown at them :) edysicecreamlover18@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I went to this place called Zombie Apocalypse last Halloween. We had a guide that helped us navigate throughout this run-down warehouse with "zombies" crawling all over the place. I know it was supposed to be scary, but we couldn't help laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing was! If I was by myself, I'm sure I'd be scared out of my pants, but the good thing about having friends with you during these things is that you can just laugh everything off. :)
ReplyDeletetripisu(at)hotmail(dot)com
What would make the best haunted house attraction is to have someone chasing you throughout the house. There is nothing like the feeling of having someone after you and you have no idea which way to turn, so you keep ending up in creepy rooms until you finally find your way out :)

The best one that I have been to and I think makes the best Haunted House. Has to be Knotts Scary Farm. Since the whole park is turned into a haunted house. You walk through the park at night the lights a dimmed and wherever you go a creature, clown, werewolf, zombie and more might be following behind you. They will pop out of nowhere and chase you. The music is haunting and the buildings are dark and creepy. The best part is that you never know what’s coming and something eerie can be waiting for you at the next corner.

I love haunted houses. I would love to see one with a vampire hanging from the ceiling/wall, at eye level with you, of course, with white fangs extra lit while the black suit is almost invisible. He jumps at you and opens his mouth, but you are moved on before he can get to you.

I love a spooky grave yard! It should be dark and foggy! Also, if a ghost happened to be wandering around, it would be even better.
ReplyDeleteTo me the best haunted house would have alot of different characters from horror movies and books that will surpise you when you least expect it. There should also be alot of fog, scary sounds/music, and of course blood and gore!

Haunted Huse is the very creepy place where you cannpot realize that something scary is about to happen and suddenly it does. There is music which makes your hair raise and chilles running down on your spine. You don't necessaryliy have to see it, but to realize that something spooky is about to happen - a sudden rush of cold air, candles blowing out, stairs making wird noises, some doors open when you pass by, silent moaning behind your back.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a real Haunted House.

Imagine walking into a Haunted House but instead of flashing lights & eerie music, you hear nothing but silence after the creak of the door slamming shut behind you. You're expecting ghost noises but all you are greeted with, is silence. Then you hear something scurrying to your right and panic! You're too interested to turn back and paralyzed with fear - JUST when you think you're comfortable, something completely out of the blue jumps out at you. My point is, the best haunted houses are the ones that LEAVE THINGS TO YOUR IMAGINATION in addition to their scary exhibits!

One of the best haunted houses I went to was a large maze that was in this huge basement. I never screamed and hollered so much in my life. They had a variety of characters from horror movies, but the thing that got me the most was when we were going through a sprayed painted hallway there was people that perfectly blended into the wall that would jump out and grab you. I about died! Lol
ReplyDeleteThe scariest parts of a haunted house usually involve children or babies. Things like skeletons and skeletal hands with neon green backlighting popping up when you get close enough don't really freak me out as much as the image of a toddler or a little girl (usually a dressed mannequin) with blindly staring, haunted eyes with neon backlighting and either wild shrieks of terror or gurgling toddler noises do. I find those kinds of things disturbing and usually manage to calmly make it through a haunted house until I'm faced with such images.
ReplyDeletesarah.setar@gmail.com
Walking through a creaky door, it's dark. You can feel the creepiness on your skin. Your hair stands up on the back of your neck. It's time to enter the house. You feel something or someone is watching you. You turn. Nothing. Going through the house, you hear the floors creak in rooms where you have been before. Something is following you. You shiver. Its too dark with just a little flashlight to see what's behind you.
ReplyDeleteThat's the kind of haunted house I like. I don't want someone to jump out at me....I want to feel the creepiness of it.

When you have to walk through haunted houses or fields and the jason type character fires up his chain saw and chases you down. Super scary, but super fun. LOL Or maybe I'm the only weirdo who thinks being scared out of your mind is kind of fun.
ReplyDeleteamcelfresh@hotmail.com
I've never been to one, why, because I spook too easily. Real haunted houses I think are the scariest. Your welcome to come visit my house any time where my daughters dolls end up in odd places in the house and when you walk out of the bathroom, there is a doll standing at the edg of the bed staring at you or perhaps you can sit in my computer chair and have your ponytail yanked so hard your head fly's back and have there be no one in the room with you. It's creeptastic :)

I think the best feature is the hidden cameras. I watched the Haunted House Tours (best of) and 9 out of 10 times the cameras caught men shoving the girls (they're supposed to be protecting) forward and toward the scary things when frightened. The cameras don't lie lol!

well, from my point of perspective.. a scary haunted house would have clowns, spider webs, zombies oooo yes zombies, and not the ones with the eyes dangling out that's too funny, it needs to be realistic. it would have to be able to scare the poop out of me, shamely enough to change my undies. good spooky background music, flashing lights, and it has to be as close to dark as possible. scratching noises too. i think im going overboard and im going to creep myself here. OH!! and a little kid singing the freddy song "one two, hes coming for you, 3..4.. u better shut the door, etc" :chills: and all this is happening while u make your way out of the haunted house.. and at the exit, once you step out: a big sumo wrestler growls and bumps his tummy on the unexpected guests... =D scare the beejezus out of me, then afterwards leave me laughing so i dont get nightmares when i go to sleep that night =)

The scariest haunted house attractions are definitely the ones that look real. I went to a haunted house once and in one of the rooms there was a man in normal civilian clothing, no make up or anything, walking around with a handgun. There were body bags hanging from the ceiling and I just thought, "This man could actually be crazy." My friends and I all ran through that room!

The best Haunted House Attraction must have tons of famous ghost or spirit around the world or take any representative from each country. So it will be frightening for all people, worldwide. Or It can become creepy creatures like Jason with his mask. Don't forget the decoration. Something also important is the frightening music.

No haunted house is complete without a room full of MIRRORS. Muahaha! Of course there has to be a few clowns, spider, ghost, and zombies, maybe even Frankenstein! But MOST OF ALL, there has to be a MYSTERY that keeps everybody wondering “What was that?” And then they either run, or they go and figure out whatever it was, and when they do they get a big SCARE! Throw in some fake blood, and creaky stairs? Maybe even a mysterious tour guide who comes out of nowhere and everyone’s suspicious of A few startling screams here and there.

The best haunted house spooks you out even before you enter it. It looks neglected and forlorn. Run down and dangerous. Tales you’ve heard make you worry about even being on its porch. Then you are inside and you feel chills on the back of your neck. Is someone watching you? What was that noise? Did you see that? The next thing you know, your asking yourself, How the heck did you end up on the sidewalk down the street from the house? You might not know, but your sure that you’ll never go back to that place ever again!

Best haunted house: the ones with people and things that drop on you. Also, a cute guy by your side to hold onto/jump into his arms when frightened always enhances the experience.
ReplyDeleteA truly scary haunted house would be filled with clowns. Nothing but freaky, scary, evil clowns. That would probably give me heart failure. Of course, I wouldn't go anywhere near it because, as you can tell, I'm terrified of clowns! But it would sure be scary!

Cobwebs in a big room that is almost empty, a grand piano that plays music while no one is touch it. Sounds of foot steps on and off throughout the room. Objects in the room that move on their own. Things that fall from the ceiling periodically to hit people. Only a few candles throughout so there's many dark corners.

ReplyDeleteWe kept leftovers in the frig for over a month and then set a table in the middle of the haunted house and then put gummy worms and flies in the food. It smelled awful and looked disgusting in the very low light. We threw little pellets at the people as they walked through and they would jump and scream and then we would reach out, dressed in black, and they would swish by our hand and scream. We had a rocking chair and a women sat there singing a lullaby in a sad voice and then she would stop and stare into space and scream and then start singing again. She freaked people out that a few walked out at that point. She scared me and I was involved. Dry ice slithered along the floor in the last room and we put things on the floor that caused people to stumble we warned them to walk slow at the beginning because some spaces were had uneven ground. Most everyone loved it and said it freaked them out. This was not for the faint at heart. Lots of fun to run.
I like cheesy haunted houses! The ones with black lights and obvious jump-out-and-scare-you tricks. I like being really scared too, but for some reason, carnival haunted houses that are just really, really silly are so much more enjoyable.

I think that the best haunted house would be one that truly catches everyone's fears. Not all people are afraid of ghosts and monsters. So maybe some of the rides and attractions can be for people who are afraid of elevators or water thus having falling elevator rides or underwater tunnels that "leak." In short, a normal haunted house could turn into Phobia Island!!!!

The best haunted houses are the ones you can walk away from—no, run away from—that leave your pants or shoes literally scared off. You know it’s been a fun experience if your needed to stand outside the bathroom door for your friend or you’re too afraid to be alone because you’re constantly looking over your shoulder or hearing sounds that may not be there. Whether its cheesy walk-through scenes with eerie music playing or scary rides with unimaginable things coming out of the woodworks, a haunted house has served its purpose if you’re left with the above feelings.

A Huge HUGE gigantic spider in the air above you. This happened in the last haunted house I was in. I froze and flat out refused to walk under that spider. Even with my children telling me it was ok. ReplyDeleteThe best haunted house is one that you will remember until you are 80 years old! I remember a haunted house when I was around 10 where my dad walked my sister and I through and the scariest part was this section of hallway with hands sticking out through the walls trying to grab us. ReplyDeleteThe best haunted houses are those that have the outside just as scary as the inside. Flashing, bright lights that make you distorted, thumping music that vibrates through your entire body with the occasional throat-bleeding scream piercing through the beats are just the beginning. Once you make it through the doors you are blinded by darkness, a black so pure that you can’t see a hand in front of your face. After stumbling around a few feet of nothing, you bumped and tossed around by multiply things. It only gets better from there but I have a word limit. =D

I like it when there is a lot of thought put into. I went to one with my cheer team as a bonding event and they had different scenes that you went through. They each were well thought through with things like different props, speakers with people talking to you, music, fog machines, strobe lights, and places where you are split up from the group. The whole factor of feeling like youre actually transported into a horror movie was a HUGE plus. The reality factor is always a sign of a great haunted house.

The best Haunted Houses have sound, light, and smoke effects! It's scarier when they mess with your senses.

ReplyDeleteThe best Haunted Houses would be those that actually seem haunted by real spirits. This would include squeaky doors/floorboards as you go around, sudden cold chills, random ghost-like people walking around past you, people speaking but no people. Maybe even floating globes of light that floats ahead of you but you can never reach it. And maybe even a hanging body in a fake murder case room which looks real enough to scare people. Or at least having a way to lead people around to really scary rooms in a surprising manner.
ReplyDeletemoonfairyirene(at)gmail(dot)com
the best haunted house for me, of course have little light, more effects (scream, crying, laughter, baby's sound, etc) and.. maybe you can give a song, the haunted song.. oh, just make it with more variant ghosts.. (all of mysterys around the world..) ..
ReplyDeleteI went to my first haunted house last fall (took me long enough). The zombies didn't bother me much, but the strobe lights freaked me out. The floor was black-and-white tile with blood splatters. (I think it was supposed to be a barbershop). There were streaks of gore on the white walls and zombies lurking in the corners. The lights made me so dizzy that I thought I was going to fall against the wall, and I knew that I didn't want to touch it. I ran. Other than that, clowns are the scariest people in existence. (Don't believe my brother if he tells you I screamed.) :)

The thing that makes a haunted house is the.....fear! and the greatest way to achieve this is through the unknown! Whats around the next corner? Will the fear be more than I can confront? With every new fear overcome you get the chance to prove yourself over and over again and in the end you realize you survived and fear had turned into fun! My favorite attraction of them all!
ReplyDeleteveltara(at)yahoo(dot)com
I think the best haunted house attractions are actually in old houses. It needs to be dark and creepy with cobwebs and hanging bats. Scary monsters should jump out at intervals and scare you and creepy music is good too. I think a guillotine with a bloody head is a great prop too.
ReplyDeleteseriousreader at live dot com
It needs to be dark and foggy. With wierd lights going off in different places so you are slightly disoriented. Then you hear the crazy laughs and screams coming from all sides before someone jumps out of the shadows.
ReplyDeletebacchus76 at myself dot com
Any time I think of haunted houses I think of Scooby-Doo and how they always went into these spooky looking houses. So if I ever go to a haunted house I think that it should look like that. It should also have a creepy clown because those freak me out! Also lots of spiderwebs

The best haunted houses are the ones that require you to go in pairs, so that the one in front is scared of what will jump out at them and the one in back is scared of what will sneak up behind them. I've been the one and it adds a whole different level of fear to a great haunted house!
ReplyDeletestimble@hotmail.com
I love the good old living room haunted house where the lamps are changed to black lights and decorations all over the room. As you enter you are blindfolded and taken to various areas in the room to sample culinary delights - goats eyes (peeled grapes), worms (pasta and oil), maggots (rice with some pudding),and brains (ye old great jello mold), etcetera . . . In the background of course the music blares with the Monster Mash and Thriller. Don't be afraid, be very afraid! Thanks for the fun give away. I found your site at another blog and have signed up to receive it. I look forward to reading what you have to say. dz59001@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteTo me, the best Haunted House is definitely a scary one! I'd much rather go to a scary one!
ReplyDeleteThey are even more scary when you travel in small groups and when they make you separate, by going through different doors.
I also love being chased. A local haunted house has you walk through the woods, and at the end of the walk (people scare you, still, it isn't a pleasant walk!), a guy with a chainsaw chases after your group, while he revs the chainsaw. Usually, people scatter, so you're left by yourself to find your way.
my fav are the ones that are really cheesy that jerk around and give you whip lash. They also tend to be the ones that you can see what's coming up, and you can't forget the metal mesh screen that sends sparks out when you pass by right before something gross get backlit.
ReplyDeleteI imagine a hunted house that is not dark or something that looks hunted when you first enter. Something just looks like a regular house but when you were already inside thats where it will feel creepy. It should be chilly inside even all the windows and doors are close. Then you can't hear any noise other than your those which come from you like your footsteps or something. The settings of the house is the most old you can imagine. You can smell a burning candle everywhere and a dead flowers. There is a huge mirror in one of the corner where you can't escape seeing yourself inside it. And once you look closer you'll see ghost or any hunted creatures beside you. Then after that all lights suddenly gone and you'll feel the presence of someone near you.

As a kid, one of the most memorable haunted house attractions was the creepy, evil dentist. Of course there are lots of gore, fake blood, and the best part - nasty tools to rip out one's teeth. This was a favorite of mine growing up because it was one of the few attractions that made my dad freak out. He absolutely hated the recorded sounds of the drill and of people screaming for their lives. Not exactly the typical haunted house fare...
ReplyDeletebooks[a]muggle-born.net
A good haunted house is one that startles as well as scares you. I haven't been to that many but strange lights, things jumping out at you and constant movement are musts. I think they're better if you're constantly moving and things are changing, barely giving you a change to adjust to what's happening. Nothing cheesy like bad music or really fake looking skeletons/blood (although I guess cheesy can be fun too).
ReplyDeletejessicamariesutton(at)msn(dot)com
The best haunted house attraction is when the ghosts and dead people are actually people who follow you and jump out at you and if your unlucky grab you (thats a health hazard for the grabee though - they are likely to get whallopped)and it has to be pitch dark with only intermittent flashes of light that show someone there one minute and gone the next.

If it was really a house, what would make the best attraction would be a secret basement, where the creepy and weird stuff are – skulls, potions and experimented animals! Before getting to this basement, some maze of sorts would be a wonderful suspense-builder! If it was any haunted place, what would make a best attraction would be to row a boat in a dark, creepy, slim river, where bones float. Also, eyes suddenly glow and disappear out of nowhere with wolf howls and owl hoots in the background! The point is to make one feel so lost, alone and vulnerable!
ReplyDeleteThanks for an international giveaway!

The scariest haunted houses are the ones were, even though you know you're perfectly safe, you are pretty terrified. Mad men chasing you through the tiny, twisty, claustrophobic halls and clowns, lots and lots of clowns :| and complete silence until you hear someone chasing you with a chainsaw.
ReplyDeleteA haunted house for me is one where you arrive at dusk with crows circling overhead and thunder and lightning in the sky overhead. The door opens by itself as you walk up to it and inside dust and spiderwebs cover every surface. As you walk along its corridors the floor creaks underfoot and china dolls with no eyes hanging from the lights.Doors slam on their own, furniture levitates, manical laughter comes from upstairs followed by banging. lights go out and something comes up behind you you can feel their breath on your neck and something pointy at your back
ReplyDeleteThat one corner or even the middle of the hallway where the music is loud, the lights are flashing, you are totally disoriented and hands reach out to grab you - it's a scream every time :)
ReplyDeletecrystalfulcher@ec.rr.com
It definitely makes me scream and cry when Jason Vorhees chases me with a chainsaw but the Haunted House is nothing without the mood and the worse part about it is walking a maze in complete darkness when there is a combination of unknown stringy stuff (hey you dont know it could be guts, or spiders or *shudder*!) hanging from the ceiling that is constantly touching you and getting stuck to your face; it makes your whole body tense and bothered.

The best Haunted House Attraction is something that simply cannot be replicated: authenticity. Anyone can string up strobe lights and have mannequins in scary masks pop out around corners. Or use fog machines and fake spiders. A true haunted house is just that - *haunted*.
ReplyDeleteI recommend you check out Eastern State Pennitentiary in PA. It's an abandoned prison that gives haunted tours every Halloween. The scariest part is that people have actually died there, so its rumored to be truly haunted, and what's scarier than that?

I really don't like haunted houses!! I am a terrified of them maybe because I grew up in a city who everyone says is very haunted (a civil war town). But I think there are a lot of aspects that make a great haunted house. First off I think that it should look very real I don't like the ones that do look fake and to top that off I think that you can't really imitate a haunted house. The best is the ones that are real.
ReplyDeleteTake from where I am from there are tons of Antebellum homes that are known for being haunted and they are full of creepy things without including a guy chasing me with a chain saw. Also where I went to elementary school for a few years was used as a hospital during the civil war and I know for a fact that weird things happen all the time. I have seen things there that no one can explain as well as others. What makes it creepy and scary is not the people in white sheets, the fog, or anything that is normally associated with haunted houses its that as soon as you walk on the grounds you can feel this chill that shouldn't be there as well you get goose bumps and feel the hair on your arms stand up! It just can't be re-created!!

I get scared out of my mind during halloween to enter anything "haunted" i don't horror movies, just anything with the words haunted and scary attach to it you wont' find me. lol;0
ReplyDeletebut i am not scared of ghost! to think a aprite may be living in a house to finish something they left behind before crossover fasinates me. i miss the show "Ghost whisper" and watch "ghost adventures" on the travel ch. and " ghost hunters" on sci-fi!
enjoying the first day of the carinval!~ follow on gfc, twitter,fb!
The best haunted house EVER would be when like, actual people scare you. The house could be all dark inside and then a light goes on and someone runs after you and other people scaring you some more while you run away. I think another thing that would be cool is if they do this thing where they trap you in the house and you have to go all around the house looking for a key or some other way to get out (ofcourse, there's going to be actual people scaring you while your at it).
ReplyDeleteThis was fun. Hee hee.

What I love about Haunted Houses is the cool air inside, the dark, creepy vibes, the fake screams and howls... LOL I always crack up when those manequins show up out of nowhere, and the lights turn on, and you can see those pathetic excuses of masks! My favorite ride ever. ;)
ReplyDeleteI would love to read THE RESTORER (I already ordered Shift ;) ), such a pretty-creepy cover.

The best haunted house for me is NO HAUNTED HOUSE. I am such a wimp. However, I have been through a handful of them before and the usual strobe lights, fake guts, creepy music, and monsters that jump out at you is plenty to scare the pants off of me!
ReplyDeleteseescootread[at]gmail[dot]com
For me the most scariest parts of a haunted house are the very dark and creepy passages and rooms you have walk through. You unsure if there is something lurking in the shadows. There is hauntingly creep music playing and you can feel movement in the air but never know when or where something will jump out to get you. Booowahhh!!!
ReplyDeleterjofus AT gmail DOT com
The best Haunted houses are the ones with the dark winding hallways. It needs to have creepy music echoing throughout the building and then just when you think fake monsters is all there is someone jumps at you from no where!
ReplyDeleteI think that the best haunted house is the one at Disney World. I love it because when you look in the mirrors, you see a spooky friend sitting in the cart with you!
ReplyDeleteepblack at zoominternet dot net
I think the best ones are the ones that scare the beejebus out of you. For example one year a friend and I went to one (a gay guy friend lol) and we were walking through this almost pitch black room and this guy comes out with either a real saw or a realistic one and its loud and buzzing and scary! My friend then proceeded to scream and hide behind me the entire time. It was one of the best times I've had in a haunted house ever.

I loveeee having sound effects that pop out of nowhere! Ooh and creepy crawly things that jump on you from above? SCARY!! Generally, I like the element of surprise. Anything that comes at me unexpectedly will get a good, loud shriek out of me. That's the best. :P
ReplyDeletejusteena_25 at yahoo dot ca
A haunted house should be scary, when you go in your blood pressure should go up and you should be tense because you don't know what is around the corner but when your round the corner smacking into the guy in the leather mask your scream should get caught in your chest because you are so scared but you love the adreline rush and come back the next night for more

ReplyDeleteThe haunted houses I like best are ones that don't take themselves to seriously and like to have a little fun with their scare! If a haunted house can make me laugh and scream, then that's the ride for me. A bit like the Haunted Mansion at Disney World.

ReplyDeleteI have to say the best are the ones that bring different themes!! I went to one that I would have to walk through a SAW movie scene, then it was Beetlejuice, then MJ Thriller n others. Of course they tried to scare us but I loved guessing where I was walking through!! My friends were freaking out, but I was like "OMG The bathroom scene from SAW!! It looks so real!!!" XD

I like any haunted house I can take my friends too and really scare their pants off. This usually includes strobe lights, 3D glasses (for the fake ghosts flying at them ;), spooky moans and wails, streamers hitting you in the face, girl writhing possessed, cannibals, loud cannonball sounds, witches cackles, etc... Thank you so much for hosting this giveaway, I haven't won one yet :( edysicecreamlover18@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWell, because I am a total wuss a great haunted house theme would be clowns. Yeah and blacklights, flahing and of course blood. That would definitely accomplish the scare factor goal for me! o.O
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. Was a fun question for entry :)

I have to be THE BIGGEST chicken in the entire world. If someone wanted to scare me to death, zombies and clowns would do the trick. Things jumping out at me & weird, creepy music would also do the trick. Ugh... I'm getting freaked out just think about it!

The ones that scare me are the ones that are really dark and have stuff hanging from the ceiling (like gauze and fake spiderwebs). Those just really creep me out and I feel like things are in my hair. Scary!!
ReplyDeleteI love the walk-throughs where people dressed up in costumes hide in crevices and jump out at you when you least expect it.

The best haunted house is the one that sends you in by threes and fours but u never see the ppl coming out the house is silent with distant noises.. layes out like a maze with live actors who jump out at intervals. hidden panels and doors that lock behind you keeping each group separate. So you can hear their screams

Best Haunted House attraction is the music - come on! YOu have to admit it, right? That eerie piano playing crescendo piqued with screams and ghoulish whispers - it sets the tone and has icey fingers crawling up your spine to boot! If not for the music and all the sound effects - the haunted house wouldn't be very good at all! So, sound it is! :)

My best friend and her daughter were my daughter's best friend too! We went (they were 8 or 9) to our local High School for a Haunted House the Seniors put on. We went thru the doorway and a monster jumped out, scared my daughter and her friend SO bad, they both grabbed onto each one of my legs SCREAMING, "I want to leave" (and I was holding my baby!!) My girlfriend could NOT pry "1" of them OFF my legs!! I was trying to walk with both on each leg and Sue took the baby out of my arms! I was laughing SO bad, I practically pee'd my pants! Needless to say, we had to leave through the ENTRANCE!!! People were looking at us wondering!!!! (I am laughing now, too!)

I love the element of surprise. One moment I'll be walking down a dark corridor and all of a sudden a mad dog could pop out, or a Shakespeare zombie. Oh look. It's a hobo with epilepsy! Anything can happen in a haunted house. Don't forget it's super dark and I'm terribly afraid of bugs (which we have a lot of in our side of town). It's a good thing my friends put up with me. Especially when I'm hanging off their arm because I'm gonna pee my pants.

I think the best haunted house is creepy to the max. There are dolls or things that make it hard to tell if they are real or fake. Then out of nowhere a person comes swinging out from the ceiling....
ReplyDeleteSorry, I live close to Knott's scary farm so I'm super used to creepy haunted houses.

I love a haunted house where people dressed in scary costumes with fake blood spurting out of their mouths suddenly ambush you. The one time it happened I let out a piercing banshee like shriek which probably scared all the ghouls away...lol!!!
ReplyDeletePlus the scattered blood n guts, the silence (I think silence is eerier than music, but sound effects like feet shuffling, a door creaking, cats yowling are great!), pitch darkness as well, and trick passageways - like a maze.
Thanks for the giveaway!! :)
jdesouza1310(at)gmail(dot)com
The scarier the better! But by scarier, I don't mean ghoulish or bloody, necessarily. I mean scary as in shocking, surprising. I love haunted houses where my attention is drawn to something & that causes me not to notice something or someone else sneaking up on me. Then I realize and SCREAM!! Those kinds of attractions are definitely the best. Second-best are the funny surprises. To this day, one of my favorite moments on the Haunted House rise at Disneyland is when you are exiting and you look in the mirror to see which spook hitched a ride in your little car with you! So cute!

I think there should be a roller coaster ride in the haunted house which would be slow when there are really scary stuff and of course lots of surprises and maybe some lucky one will get touched by something and there should be haed and hands appearing out of nowhere along with lots of blood and fog.

The best haunted house is in an old barn or falling down building, very dark, lights set at the correct sites to catch your attention. The props have to look real, people coming from every direction at you with knives, chain saws. Plenty of gory, bloody bodies that look real for the small time the lights hit them. The music has to be loud, deafening, and haunteding eerie. These things scare the crap out of me, and just writing them down gives me the jitters:)

The best haunted house is the scariest haunted house, but one that doesn't seem too scary at all and one that isn't afraid to spook the livings out of you. I remember when I was four going Trick or Treating and a guy dressed up in a ghoul suit was hiding on the other side of his house in the dark. I walked up and stepped on something gooey and he jumped out and his friends jumped from the low roof above me. Not too scary, but definitely daring!

I think in a hounted house there have to be disguised people, who scare visitors, I actually think them being there is scary already XD
