Product Description:

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

My Thoughts:

I have heard the hype on this series for so long now.  I bought them all, and they had been patiently waiting on my shelf.  My husband and several of my blogger friends had all been on my back to read them, so I don't know why I kept putting it off.  I think I was just afraid that it wasn't going to live up to what I had hoped the series would be.

During the first half of the book, around 250 pages or so, I just wasn't feeling it.  I was enjoying it, I liked the characters.  The world was intriguing and I was interested, but it was taking me a couple days just to get through that first half.  I wasn't completely sucked into the story and engrossed.  That all changed with the second half of the book.

I can't really pin-point where the story started changing for me, but when it did, I literally could not put this book down.  I was so engrossed in the story that when I was supposed to be leaving I was kept telling myself, "just a few more pages", then, "just a few more", until I was late for where I was supposed to be!

Clary, Jace, Simon, and all the other characters of this world became so real to me that I thought about them long after I turned the last page.  I became so invested in the characters that when the big revelations came for then I felt their shock and betrayal like it was my own.  I got mad with them and wanted to jump through the pages and punch the offending bad guy.  My heart broke with them.

Now I just can't wait to join all of these characters again in book 2, City of Ashes, and see where Cassandra Clare takes us next!  I never expected City of Bones to go where it did, so I'm sure I will be in for a thrill ride with City of Ashes!

  5. I LOVED this series, but after reading City of Bones I actually put off City of Ashes for a REALLY long time. Mainly because of what happens between Jace and Clary...

  6. So glad you ended up liking it! It's been so long since I started the series that I really don't remember my feelings. I know that I ended up really enjoying the series though.

  7. For me this book never lived up to the hype. I did enjoy the first book enough to give it 4/5 and the second book did get a little better but it still just doesn't blow me away. To me this series is a good read but it doesn't amaze me.
I hope you like the next books in the series though. :)

  8. I resisted this series for a while but got sucked in and just loved it! Brilliant review...can't wait to see what you think of City of Ashes! :)

  11. I can't wait till you get to the rest of them; they get better and better with each book! I love this series, it's extremely addicting. I can't say I didn't feel it, but I admit it didn't blow me away until around 2/3 into it. But when it did... Yeah, I love it. ;) I finally got my review up too, lol!

  12. Awesome review:) Can't wait to read this book and see the movie!!!
